This video shows a passport mailing machine. Passports are loaded into the hopper and a database is loaded into the system. Each passport has a unique identifier. Usually this is a barcode printed on a label and applied to the back of each book. It could also be an RFID label applied anywhere in the book. The system separates the passports and identifies each one. The database then prints the relevant letter for each passport and this is folded and fed down the carrier channel. The system matches each passport to its letter and inserts the documents, together with any required enclosures, into a window envelope. Misread documents are diverted into the appropriate reject box. A scale checks that all components are present and a complete audit file is recorded.
